Saving
Saving your renders
Save at full resolution in the right format for the job, with a transparent background if you need one, and find every render again in your history.
The Save menu
Press Save in the top right of the studio. The menu has two columns: formats on the left, options on the right. Pick a format and your render downloads straight away, at full resolution, exactly as it is at that moment.
Which format
| Format | What it is | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| JPEG | 8-bit, the smallest file | Sharing, the web, messages and email |
| PNG | 8-bit, lossless | Best-quality images, and transparent backgrounds |
| TIFF | 16-bit, lossless | Print, and retouching in Photoshop with room to adjust |
| EXR half | 16-bit float, the true light values | Compositing in Nuke, After Effects or Photoshop |
| EXR full | 32-bit float | The same, at full precision |
JPEG, PNG and TIFF look exactly like the render on screen, with your exposure, glow and glare.
EXR keeps the real light values, from the deepest shadow to the brightest highlight, without exposure, glow or glare. That means you can change the exposure, grade the colors or add your own bloom later, without anything clipping to white.
File names
Every file is named after its scene, its sample count and the moment you saved it, like:

So you can always tell renders apart, and see how far each one was rendered.
Transparent backgrounds
Turn on Transparent background in the Save menu, and PNG, TIFF and EXR save your model on a clear background, ready to place on any color, photo or layout.
Auddomate keeps track of which samples actually hit your model, so soft edges, like the blur of depth of field or the rim of a glass, blend cleanly onto any backdrop instead of carrying a fringe of sky color. Reflections and lighting still come from the sky you chose.
Options
The options on the right of the Save menu stay open while you tick them, and Auddomate remembers your choices:
- Transparent background: described above.
- Embed render settings writes how the render was made, like the scene, samples, bounces, sky, lens and exposure, into the file's own description. Open the file's info in your photo app to see it.
- Keep in render history keeps a copy of every save in your browser.
Copy image
Copy image puts the render on your clipboard, ready to paste into Photoshop, Figma, Slack or a message, without saving a file first.
Render history
Every render you save is kept in Render history, at the bottom of the Save menu, with a thumbnail and the settings it was made with. Download it again exactly as you saved it, in the same format, at any time.
Your history lives in this browser on this computer, and keeps your last 40 renders. To remove one, press its remove button, then press it again to confirm.
Motion and passes
The Save menu also holds:
- Video and Image sequence, under Motion, which open Render animation. See Rendering video and frames.
- Ambient occlusion and Fresnel, under Pass, which switch the render to that pass for compositing. See Passes.
Before you save
- Let it finish. Save once the render says Finished, or as soon as it looks clean to you. You can't save before the first sample.
- Check the size. Choose an exact Size in the Render tab, like HD or 4K, and the file is saved at that size whatever your screen. With Fit the window, the file matches the render area. See Resolution.
