Animation
Rendering video and frames
Render every frame of your animation or turntable to the quality you choose, then save it as an MP4 or as PNG or EXR frames.
Render an animation
- Set up your shot, your lighting and your frame rate.
- Press Render animation at the bottom of the Animation tab, or choose Video or Image sequence from the Save menu.
- Check the frame rate, and choose a Quality per frame.
- Choose Save as: MP4 video, PNG frames or EXR frames.
- Press Render.
Every frame is rendered to the quality you chose, denoised, and finished with your glow, glare and depth of field. The render behind the window shows each frame as it finishes, and a progress bar shows the frame count and roughly how long is left.
When it's done, the file downloads by itself.
Videos and turntables can be up to 10 seconds long. Longer videos are part of Auddomate Pro; the window tells you if yours is longer and how long it is.
Pause and resume
Long renders don't have to happen in one sitting. Every finished frame is saved in your browser as soon as it's done, so nothing is lost if you stop:
- Press Pause while it renders. Auddomate finishes the frame it's on and stops.
- Close the tab, reload, or let your computer sleep. The saved frames stay in this browser.
- Come back to the studio. The Animation tab shows your Unfinished render, with how many frames are saved.
- Press Resume. Auddomate puts the studio back exactly as it was, with the same scene, camera, lens, sky, lighting, exposure, glow, glare and render size, and carries on from the next frame.
If the render stops by itself, because the browser closed or the graphics card was reset, it resumes the same way.
Press Discard, then Confirm discard, to delete the saved frames and free the space. Starting a new render while one is unfinished asks you to confirm the same way, because there's room for one unfinished render at a time.
Storage space
Saved frames live in your browser's storage until the render is finished and downloaded. As a rough guide for a 1,000 × 1,000 render:
| Save as | Space per frame |
|---|---|
| MP4 video | About 0.3 MB |
| PNG frames | About 2.5 MB |
| EXR frames | About 8 MB |
Auddomate checks there's enough room before it starts, and tells you if there isn't. When the render finishes, the saved frames are cleared automatically.
Quality per frame
Quality per frame is the number of samples each frame gets, from 64 to 1,024. The denoiser cleans every frame, so you need far fewer samples than for a still image.
| Quality per frame | Good for |
|---|---|
| 64–128 samples | Previews and quick tests |
| 256 samples | Most animations. The default |
| 512–1,024 samples | Glass, depth of field and motion blur at their best |
The time a render takes is the time for one frame multiplied by the number of frames, so a 10-second animation at 30 frames per second is 300 frames. Start with a short test at a low quality before committing to a long render.
Which output
| Save as | What you get | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 video | A single H.264 video file, made right in your browser | Sharing, social media, presentations |
| PNG frames | A zip of numbered PNG images | Editing in After Effects or Premiere, at full quality |
| EXR frames | A zip of numbered EXR images with the real light values | Compositing and grading in Nuke or After Effects |
The file name tells you what's inside, like auddomate-perfume-180f-30fps.mp4: 180 frames at 30 frames per second.
Turntable videos
A turntable renders exactly one full turn, and its last frame leads straight back into the first, so the video loops seamlessly. Set it to loop in your player or on your web page and it will spin forever without a jump.
